Make a Spook-tacular difference for Kids with Spirit of Children

Spooky season has arrived? Spirit of Children has been making hospitals less scary for children and their families since 2006 by providing fun and funding to Child Life departments within children’s hospitals across the nation. Throughout the month of October, Spirit of Children will raise funds at local Spirit Halloween locations to support our incredible Child Life team at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio!

All spooky season long, Spirit Halloween customers will have the opportunity to donate $1, $2, or more during check-out. Your donations stay local to support our Child Life specialists, who provide emotional and therapeutic healing through play and activities while children prepare for or undergo treatment. Child Life specialists are professionally trained in child development and special education, and help children better understand their treatment plan and why they are in the hospital. The Child Life department at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio creates an environment designed to ease children’s fears and provide important emotional and social care to make the hospital experience as pleasant as possible for both the child and the family.

Spirit of Children was one of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio’s top fundraising partners last year, raising $200,600 for out kids! How amazing is that? Your generosity will create funding for art, music, and therapy programs, as well as the purchase of educational items and toys used for distraction during medical procedures (and so much more!) for patients at The Children’s Hospital to benefit from all year long.

As Halloween approaches, Spirit Halloween volunteers will also deliver costumes and help patients pick out their very best spooky gear! It’s a very special time of year and the generosity of Spirit of Childrens brings a sense of normalcy to patients who have to spend Halloween in the hospital.
